Marc Marquez will miss the Dutch TT at Assen as a result of the injuries he picked up last weekend at the Sachsenring – mainly fractured ribs – flaring up.
The Honda pilot skipped last weekend’s German Grand Prix after suffering the fractured rib as well as a fractured finger during a nasty crash during the warm-up session ahead of last Sunday’s full-length encounter in order to try and recover sufficiently to compete at Assen.
Marquez managed to complete Friday practice as well as qualifying and the sprint race on Saturday – albeit in discomfort as he ultimately struggled to 17th in the half-distance outing – with he and Honda subsequently deciding to miss the Dutch TT due to the injuries failing to improve overnight.
The Japanese manufacturer released a brief statement on Sunday morning ahead of the Dutch contest, stating:
“Marc Marquez will sit out the Grand Prix at the TT Circuit Assen after being declared unfit as a result of the injuries sustained at the German GP last week, which have been aggravated further in Assen.”
The Spaniard now has five weeks to heal fully as MotoGP heads into its summer break, with next round of the championship taking place at Silverstone for the British GP in early August.
Marquez’s removal from Sunday’s action means Iker Lecuona – who is subbing for the also-injured Joan Mir at Honda’s MotoGP squad – will be its only entrant, the Andorran taking the start from 22nd on the grid having finished 20th in Saturday’s 13-lap sprint dash.
