Japanese driver Nobuharu Matsushita will get a second season in GP2 with the ART Grand Prix team.

The Honda-backed Matsushita finished ninth in the standings after making his debut in the series last year, securing a victory and two podiums, whilst team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne went on to win the title with seven wins.

Under GP2 rules, the reigning champion cannot race in the series, therefore McLaren's Vandoorne has confirmed a move to the Super Formula series for 2016.

Matsushita will join the already confirmed Russian Sergey Siotkin, who moves from Rapax to ART.

"I would like to thank Honda and ART Grand Prix for giving me this opportunity to continue racing in GP2 Series," said Matsushita. "ART won the championships last year, and I am so honored to be part of such an amazing team again.

"As a member of HFDP, Honda Formula Dream Project, aiming to be the top-world-class driver, I will give my best to win the drivers and the team championship in my second GP2 season."

ART boss Sébastien Philippe added: "He had an incredible year in 2015 when he did not know Europe or the championship, the team and the car, but he secured one win, several podiums and made massive improvements all year long," he said.

"We have no doubt at all that he has all the assets needed to fight for the title in 2016."
