Pirelli working with FOM to provide improved TV graphics

Pirelli are working with Formula One Management to ensure race fans and the media can follow and understand tyre strategies in 2016, which are set to become more complex with the addition of a third compound and free choice.

As part of new rules for the upcoming season, each driver can choose which compounds they would like to run during the race, out of a choice of three elected beforehand by F1's tyre supplier, Pirelli.

It's hoped that this will create more varied race strategies, resulting in less predictable results. However there is a concern it might confuse those watching on television, therefore Pirelli are keen to see improvements made to the FOM graphics during live coverage, to aid those at home.

"We are working together with FOM to give the information live during the races so every spectator can understand what's going to happen," Pirelli's racing manager Mario Isola is quoted by Motorsport.

"I think it's useful also for the media to know exactly which is the situation and the strategy," he added. "With the new regulations they have not only three compounds but the ability to choose 10 sets, so I hope we are going to see different strategies and more interesting races.

"To do that, you obviously need the information and you need to know which tyre each driver has available in the garage – and we are working together with FOM to provide this information."
