Manor Racing have confirmed that Pat Fry will join the team in an engineering consultancy role, adding to a recent spate of technical signings, including ex-Ferrari designer Nikolas Tombazis and Dave Ryan to the role of racing director.

The Briton began his Formula 1 career with Benetton in 1987, before mvoing to McLaren in 1993 where he spent several years as their chief engineer of race development.

He left McLaren in 2010 and joined Ferrari as assistant technical director, whilst also taking on the role of head of race track engineering, replacing Chris Dyer. However during Ferrari's 2013 restructure, Fry would be replaced by Lotus's James Allison and moved to a newly created role of director of engineering.

We're pleased to announce that Pat Fry has joined our team as Engineering Consultant, to help us get our 2016 challenge underway – Manor Racing

He left Ferrari in 2014 during a second restructure headed by current team boss Maurizio Arrivabene, in what the team described as creating "a flatter structure and clear assignment of responsibilities".

Speaking about his appointment, Ryan, who worked with Fry at McLaren, said: "We are extremely fortunate to have Pat on board to help us hit the ground running with our exciting new technical package.

"The aim is to bring performance to the car with effect from the Barcelona tests, then translate that to the race track [for the first race] in Melbourne, to ensure we make the strongest possible start to 2016 and have a good basis for development in the early part of the season."
