Hamilton: ‘No need for team talk after Rosberg clash’

Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff might have called for ‘clear-the-air’ talks between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg following their opening lap clash in Austin, which Rosberg described as “very aggressive”, but Hamilton doesn’t believe there is any need.

The pair touched wheels when they battled for the lead at Turn 1 of the United States Grand Prix last weekend, leading to the Briton getting ahead of his team-mate where he went on to win the race.

During post-race interviews, Rosberg made it clear that he was unhappy with the incident.

“For sure it was extremely aggressive. We hit each other – or I would say Lewis came into me, so obviously that’s not good.”

However Hamilton sees it differently: “We haven’t spoken and I don’t think we really need to,” he said on Thursday.

When asked why that was, he added: “The reason for me is I am very easy going, so I never have any problems.

“Toto feels that he needs to perhaps sit with Nico to see where his head is at, because we don’t want tension in the team.

“Generally we do come together and keep it transparent. I don’t have anything to say about it, but I am sure we will sit down and see what Nico is feeling and whatever emotion he has, then try to dilute them and move on.”

When asked how he felt about the cap-throwing incident, he replied: “The cap thing? That was pretty funny. I don’t really have much else to say about it.”
