Porsche’s three factory 963s will be decked out in a special livery at Le Mans, celebrating the manufacturer’s 75th anniversary.
There will be 15 stripes in seven different colours, each a tribute to different liveries Porsche has run in the past on its various sportscars throughout the years, including the famous pink pig and ‘psychedelic’ or ‘hippie car’ liveries on the 917 in the 1970s.
The dark blue, meanwhile, is a nod to the Rothmans liveries used on the Porsche 956s and 962s in the 80s, while the yellow symbolises the DHL-sponsored, Penske-run RS Spyders which competed in the American Le Mans Series and took three titles in three years from 2006 to 2008.
“In Le Mans, our three Porsche 963 will be truly eye-catching at the 75th anniversary of our brand and the 100th anniversary of the 24-hour race,” said Thomas Laudenbach, Porsche’s motorsport vice president.
“I do not doubt that this design will immediately win the hearts of fans. We embraced the vehicle designs from Porsche’s rich and illustrious history at Le Mans. The 917 as a pink “pig” and the “hippie car” from 1970 – these liveries have made racing history and are still popular today. With our special design on the three Porsche 963, we’re continuing this great tradition at Le Mans.”
Porsche will have three factory entries at the centenary running of the French endurance classic. #5 will have Dane Cameron, Fred Makowiecki, and Michael Christensen onboard. Laurens Vanthoor, Kevin Estre and Andre Lotterer will share #6, with both cars competing full-time in the FIA World Endurance Championship. The one-off #75 will be comprised of the manufacturer’s IMSA drivers: Felipe Nasr, Nick Tandy, and Mathieu Jaminet.
