Bernie Ecclestone is pushing to keep Hispania on the grid after admitting the Spanish team has ‘problems.’
According to the Daily Telegraph the newcomer is struggling to keep up with its payments, leading to Ecclestone having to step in and, as he put’s it, ‘sort it out.’
“HRT have got problems” Ecclestone explained. “I will sort it out.”
The team joined F1 earlier this year after being rescued by Jose Ramon Carabante. The Spaniard bought the controlling stake in Campos Meta after it ran into financial difficulties even before it had joined the grid.
Ecclestone also admitted that F1 could loose one of the teams, be it a newcomer or an established team, by the end of the year.
“I’d like to see 12 teams finish the season because they have made the commitment to come in. We might lose one of them. But I’m doing my bit to make sure it doesn’t happen.”
The FIA has prepared for such a scenario. With the current tender process to find a 13th team underway for 2011, the governing body has made plans to find a reserve team as well as the 13th to ensure a full grid next season.
