It’s still too early to decide Kimi Raikkonen’s future according to Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene.
The Finnish driver has struggled to match team-mate Sebastian Vettel, particularly during qualifying, which has prompted speculation about his Formula 1 future.
In Austria Raikkonen qualified 18th, with the team denying they were at fault, whilst in the race he lost control of his car and crashed out, taking McLaren’s Fernando Alonso with him.
It comes just a fortnight after he span during the Canadian GP, costing him a potential podium finish.
Arrivabene insists making a decision about Raikkonen’s future at this stage is unwise and would only cause more problems, but admitted there would be a cut-off date.
“There are many many things to consider and now is too early to tell him something or to decide something,” said the Italian.
“We are not even halfway through the season. Try to be in my position, and going to Kimi to say you are out or you are in or whatever.
“I want the guys to be concentrated on what they are doing and to give the maximum,” he added.
“Of course you have a deadline, and I’m not going to tell you when the deadline is.
“We will decide when it is the appropriate time, for him and for us.”
