The 2016 German Grand Prix will definitely happen according to venue manager Georg Seiler, following doubts after this year’s event was removed from the calendar.
The event, which was supposed to take place at the Nurburgring, was removed after it came to light that the organisers couldn’t afford the hosting fee.
Despite efforts to save it, which included a reduced fee, Mercedes offering to pay half and the possibility of relocating it to Hockenheim, it dropped off the F1 calendar for the first time in over 50 years.
The 2016 event, which will be held at Hockenheim, is definitely going ahead as planned, confirmed Seiler to the SID news agency.
“It’s 100 percent sure, even a 1000 percent sure,” he said. “We have a contract for next year and we have always respected our contract.”
Seiler’s insistence comes after Bernie Ecclestone failed to confirm if it would return to the calendar next year.
“I have a good relationship with Bernie Ecclestone,” he added.
