Red Bull have called for change to the way the sport is governed, as well as regulation changes surrounding engines and aerodynamics at a crunch meeting next week.
His comments come amid calls from senior figures at Williams and Lotus that want stability, rather than the change Red Bull are calling for, which they believe will widen the gap and reduce the spectacle.
The teams, the FIA and FOM represented by Bernie Ecclestone will meet on Thursday at Biggin Hill to discuss what changes are required to overhaul the sport for 2017.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko reiterated recent threats to quit, unless drastic changes are agreed at Thursday’s meeting.
“I hope something reasonable comes out of the meeting,” he is quoted by Austria’s APA news agency.
“It is important not only for us but for the whole of Formula 1. TV ratings and crowds are down; there are hardly any new sponsors.
“Our boss [Dietrich Mateschitz] has already indicated that we will need to rethink our engagement if something does not change.”
However simply changing the rules surrounding engines and aerodynamics isn’t enough for Marko. The Austrian has called for independent governance on how rules are agreed in future.
“The system with the FIA, FOM and the teams does not work,” he added. “You cannot always ask everybody what they want. There should be an independent mechanism.”
