Red Bull’s Helmut Marko has admitted that the team’s RB11 chassis is equally to blame for their performance woes, alongside its engine partner, Renault.
Marko launched a scathing attack on the French manufacturer last month, as did design guru Adrian Newey who said the engine was the only factor in their deficit to Mercedes.
Renault’s Cyril Abiteboul responded by calling Newey a “liar”, claiming the chassis has its own problems – something proven by the fact Toro Rosso, which also uses Renault engines, is quicker.

Marko has now admitted Red Bull needs to look at itself and solves its own issues before it can be truly satisfied.
“The Sepang result was unfortunate for Red Bull Racing, but it does not hurt because there is the need to wake up in England,” the Austrian told Servus TV.
“There are some things in the chassis that do not work optimally.”
However he claims Ferrari’s recent win gives them hope that ground to Mercedes can be made up quickly.
“It demonstrates that everything is possible,” he added. “Ferrari has done a good job and things can change quite quickly.
“We have just got to focus on our issues and address them in the forthcoming races.”
