Pedro Acosta led the way in the opening United States MotoGP practice session, but Marc Marquez made the headlines after another fast crash.
Less than 10 minutes into the session, nine-time World Champion Marquez suffered a heavy crash at Turn 10 which brought out the red flag.
The Spaniard flew through the gravel trap and got away without barrel rolling, but still looked in some pain as he rode around to fourth at the flag with a bandaged right hand.
Bumps at Turn 10 caught out some other riders, as 2024 World Champion Jorge Martin struggled with the track conditions and KTM’s Brad Binder ran wide.
Despite the clear challenges around the Circuit of the Americas, Acosta was undeterred aboard his KTM as he topped the timesheets with a 2:01.715
VR46 Ducati’s Fabio Di Giannantonio finished second, as Martin completed the top three for Aprilia.
Marquez wound up fourth despite his heavy crash, with Raul Fernandez rounding out the top five for the American-based Trackhouse team.
Gresini’s Alex Marquez took sixth at the flag, while Luca Marini was top Honda in seventh.
Ai Ogura led factory Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi in eighth and ninth – with all four Aprilia machines once again inside the top 10.
Franco Morbidelli finished 10th, knocking Francesco Bagnaia down to 11th despite the Ducati rider briefly leading the session.
Jack Miller’s best time was enough for 12th, as Maverick Vinales led Tech3 KTM team-mate Enea Bastianini in 13th and 14th respectively.
Alex Rins took the chequered flag in 15th, narrowly ahead of Binder and the second Honda of Joan Mir.
Fabio Quartararo struggled to 18th, while Toprak Razgatlioglu took 19th in his first-ever session in Texas.
The LCR Honda pair finished 20th and 21st – with Johann Zarco leading rookie Diogo Moreira.
Fermin Aldeguer continued his injury comeback and completed the standings in 22nd.
