Gresini Racing are exploring a potential reunion with Honda as a satellite team from the 2027 MotoGP season.
The Faenza-based entity has been Ducati’s satellite outfit since 2021, but reports now indicate the team is exploring a possible reunion with Honda in time for the 2027 regulation overhaul.
Gresini’s partnership with Ducati has marked its most successful period in prototype racing. Enea Bastianini finished third in the championship in 2021, Marc Marquez joined the team in 2024, and its best result came in 2025 when Alex Marquez finished runner-up.
As part of the rumoured switch from Ducati to Honda, it is reported that Gresini will likely lose both its riders, Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer.
Reports from Motorsport.com state that the VR46 Ducati team has reached an agreement to sign Aldeguer in 2027, exercising the further two-year option in his four-year (two+two) deal with the Bologna manufacturer signed from 2025.
Despite this agreement reportedly being in place, Gresini admitted on the MotoGP world feed at the most recent Brazilian Grand Prix that there is still a chance it could sign Aldeguer should it remain with Ducati from 2027.
“Our situation, actually, is that we are still speaking with Ducati,” said team manager Michele Masini.
“We have a lot of options regarding the riders for 2027. One of those is Fermin Aldeguer.
“I think that everything, all the options are on the table and just we need more time.”
As for 2025 vice champion Marquez, he is reportedly set to join KTM’s factory squad to replace the departing Pedro Acosta, who is rumoured to join Marc Marquez at factory Ducati.
No moves have been officially announced yet, but should the switch from Ducati to Honda occur, The Race reports a possible return for Bastianini and a promotion for Moto2 CFMoto rider David Alonso.
