Gresini Ducati has confirmed Fermin Aldeguer will miss the opening round of the 2026 MotoGP season in Thailand.
Aldeguer had been a doubt for the season opener after fracturing his left femur in a training accident at home in January.
The Spaniard has since undergone surgery on the injury and had been hoping to be fit enough to take part in the first round of the season after a strong rookie campaign in 2025.
However, Gresini has revealed on social media that despite his best efforts, the 20-year-old will not be ready to take part in testing at Buriram before the season gets underway on 27 February.
Aldeguer will also miss the opening round of the season as he continues his rehabilitation.
“Aldeguer keeps pushing forward with determination and perseverance,” a brief Gresini team statement read.
“His recovery is moving fast, but not enough to see him in Thailand.
“He’ll miss the Buriram tests and the season opener.”
Missing the first round of the season, as well as the entirety of pre-season testing, will dent Aldeguer’s bid to improve on his debut campaign, where he became just the fifth rookie to win a MotoGP race.
Instead, the Murcian will continue to focus on his recovery and aim to return for the Brazilian Grand Prix from 20-22 March.
Ducati test rider Michele Pirro has been confirmed as Aldeguer’s replacement and the Italian will participate in both testing and the Thai Grand Prix weekend.
