Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez led the Italian manufacturer to another 1-2 as he topped the post-season MotoGP test at Valencia.
Aprilia fittingly completed 2025 MotoGP action as the fastest manufacturer, with Fernandez leading the charge over factory rider Marco Bezzecchi.
It was the first chance for rookies Toprak Razgatlioglu and Diogo Moreira to get their taste of MotoGP action. Moto2’s Celestino Vietti was also awarded his debut on MotoGP machinery to replace the injured Franco Morbidelli at VR46.
The suboptimal track conditions at Valencia saw the session delayed by an hour. Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller was the first rider to head out onto the circuit, although he came straight back down the pit lane before setting an official lap time.
Two hours into testing, Maverick Vinales became the second rider on track, using the wet tyres in an attempt to navigate the damp patches around the circuit. However, the Spaniard also returned to the pit lane before the session was red-flagged until the afternoon.
The afternoon session began and more riders started to head out onto the track, with Fabio Quartararo the fastest of the opening laps – posting his first lap time with Yamaha’s V4 engine with a 1:30.020.
With two hours left on the clock, Trackhouse’s Fernandez headed to the top of the timesheets. The factory Aprilias debuted a radical new fairing, which included front wings with more aggressive bend angles and different air ducts, while Fernandez confirmed he had nothing new to test throughout the day.
At the end of the day’s running, Fernandez remained the fastest rider with his 1:29.373 proving unbeatable, while Bezzecchi took second by 0.0XXs.
Gresini Ducati riders Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer followed the Aprilia pair in third and fourth. KTM’s Pedro Acosta completed the top five, while Vinales was able to take sixth aboard his Tech3 machine.
Fabio Di Giannantonio suffered a technical problem with three hours left on the clock but was able to rejoin the session in seventh, while Ducati test rider Nicolo Bulega completed the day’s action in eighth.
Brad Binder completed his test programme in ninth for KTM. Francesco Bagnaia was the sole crasher of the test and returned to the pits to complete the top 10.
Davide Brivio confirmed Ai Ogura was testing a new chassis upgrade as the Japanese rider finished 11th ahead of Joan Mir, who was the top Honda in 12th.
LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco completed the day in 13th, while Luca Marini rounded out the factory’s efforts in 14th.
Quartararo was the top Yamaha in 15th on the V4 engine’s official MotoGP debut, as Jorge Martin earned 16th as the final Aprilia runner and Enea Bastianini saw the chequered flag in 17th.
WorldSBK champion Razgatlioglu finished his MotoGP debut in 18th ahead of factory Yamaha rider Alex Rins and team-mate Miller in 19th and 20th respectively.
