Maximo Quiles survived a number of errors throughout the Portimao Moto3 race en route to his third victory of the 2025 season.

Quiles took the lead at the midway stage of the race and despite a number of scares and setbacks, the Spanish rider ultimately overcame his rivals to secure the race victory.

Joel Kelso made the best start from pole position and kept his advantage down into the first corner, while Quiles made a good start to take second from Scott Ogden.

Joel Esteban also made progress at the start of the race, overtaking Ogden for third before battling past Quiles.

Both Spaniards had moments that forced them wide at the final corner, which allowed Adrian Fernandez and Angel Piqueras to make their respective moves onto the podium.

Stand-in rider Casey O’Gorman started to get a feel for the conditions after the first few laps, pulling an aggressive move on team-mate Guido Pini and Taiyo Furusato.

Quiles was able to respond to his early moment out of the final corner and found himself back into second, duelling with Piqueras as both riders lost ground on Kelso.

However, Kelso made a costly error at Turn 5, which allowed Quiles and Piqueras into first and second.

Quiles himself then made an error at the same corner a couple of laps later, which caused the group to bunch up – with Taiyo Furusato the rider to prevail and take the lead.

However, Quiles wasn’t satisfied to sit back and allow Furusato to run away with the lead, with the Spaniard once again finding a way back into the first.

It would prove to be a position he would not relinquish as Quiles crossed the line to take his third victory of the campaign for the Aspar team.

Piqueras managed to get the better of Furusato in the final laps, as the Spaniard took second while the Japanese rider had to be content with third.

Esteban’s aggressive moves paid off as he took the chequered flag in fourth, while Alvaro Carpe made some strong overtakes in fifth.

O’Gorman had a strong ride in sixth place ahead of one-time race leader Kelso in seventh, as Ogden came home in eighth.

Fernandez slipped to ninth on the final lap, while Luca Lunetta completed the top 10 after a close battle with Marco Morelli.

Hakim Danish earned his first Moto3 points finish in 12th after prevailing in a close battle with Brian Uriarte in 13th.

Dennis Foggia took the chequered flag in 14th, while Nicola Carraro completed the points finishers in 15th.
