Gresini Ducati rider Fermin Aldeguer battled against the difficult conditions to top the final MotoGP practice session at Portimao.
Track conditions remained damp after early morning rain in the Algarve, providing a mixed order ahead of qualifying.
Perennial mixed-conditions specialist Jack Miller set the early pace as one of the 10 riders who headed out onto the circuit.
As more riders filtered on-track, the Yamaha machinery looked to have the difficult conditions figured out with Miguel Oliveira heading to the top of the timesheets before being replaced by Fabio Quartararo.
Quartararo himself was replaced at the top of the timesheets by team-mate Alex Rins, but the lap times continued to tumble as more riders set representative laps.
It was Aldeguer who made the most of the evolving track as he led a Gresini 1-2 in the final practice, topping the timesheets by 0.003s over team-mate Alex Marquez.
Joan Mir’s final lap saw him inside the top three at the chequered flag, 0.023s off Aldeguer’s best time.
Marco Bezzecchi ended the session in fourth, while Francesco Bagnaia completed the top five.
Pedro Acosta finished the final practice session in sixth, narrowly ahead of Johann Zarco in seventh.
Raul Fernandez responded to his heavy crash on Friday morning by taking eighth, as Pol Espargaro continued to shine as a stand-in in ninth.
Brad Binder rounded out the top 10, while Fabio Di Giannantonio and Nicolo Bulega set identical lap times in 11th and 12th respectively.
Somkiat Chantra was 14th at the flag over one-time leader Oliveira in 15th. Yamaha’s early pace looked to falter as Quartararo only managed 16th.
Lorenzo Savadori crossed the line to take 17th ahead of Luca Marini in 18th and Enea Bastianini in 19th.
Ai Ogura finished down in 20th, while Rins ended his session in 21st despite leading at the halfway point.
Franco Morbidelli completed the standings in 22nd at the chequered flag.
