Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi continued his strong momentum to top the second MotoGP Motegi free practice session.

The Italian’s rapid pace on the RS-GP continued, lapping 1.43.193s with KTM’s Pedro Acosta and championship leader Marc Marquez in third.

Joan Mir and Luca Marini claimed fourth and sixth for the factory Honda at its home race, as VR46 Ducati rider Fabio Di Giannantonio finished between the Japanese marque.

Francesco Bagnaia topped the first session earlier on Friday, but ended the second session down in seventh place.

Fabio Quartararo claimed an impressive eighth place, closely followed by Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez and LCR Honda rider Johann Zarco.

Gresini riders Fermin Aldeguer and Alex Marquez will have to go through Q1 on Saturday after narrowly missing out on a top-10 position. Aldeguer lapped 11th and Marquez 15th fastest, separated by just 0.050 seconds.

Enea Bastianini sealed 12th for KTM, while Jorge Martin, hometown hero Ai Ogura and Marquez all set the exact same lap time.

Franco Morbidelli finished in a lonely 16th place, defeating the struggling Brad Binder on his KTM.

Somkiat Chantra finished the session 18th overall, but aside from Takaaki Nakagami and Maverick Vinales, Yamaha occupied the final spots.

Alex Rins finished in 19th on the factory bike, whereas Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira claimed 20th and 22nd place for Pramac.
