Factory KTM rider Pedro Acosta recovered from a disappointing San Marino GP as he topped the final in-season MotoGP test at Misano.
Acosta joined KTM test rider Dani Pedrosa in trialling new parts, including an updated swingarm and exhaust package, as the Spanish rider topped the test with a time of 1:30.374.
All manufacturers tested new parts for the test, with Yamaha stealing the attention as Fabio Quartararo and Jack Miller debuted on the all-new V4 engine in the morning session.
Miller was one of the first riders on track and posted a time of 1:34.376, two seconds shy of the best lap of early leader Acosta.
However, it was Alex Marquez on the Gresini who would ultimately end the morning session as the fastest rider, stealing the top spot with minutes to go by setting a 1:30.714.
Marco Bezzecchi ended the morning’s running in second place, as Aprilia tested an electronics update alongside new chassis. The elder Marquez completed the top three as he tested different swingarms and handlebar positions.
In the afternoon session, Acosta returned to the top of the timesheets with two hours left on the clock, where the Spaniard would remain to top the Misano test.
Raul Fernandez ended the day a surprise second as Trackhouse’s sole runner, with team-mate Ai Ogura electing to focus on recovering from injuries suffered in Sunday’s Grand Prix.
Franco Morbidelli was the last rider on track and completed the top three for the VR46 Ducati team, while Fabio Di Giannantonio was just behind in fourth.
Fermin Aldeguer completed his testing for Gresini in fifth, while Francesco Bagnaia received guidance from two-time World Champion Casey Stoner as he ended the day in sixth despite suffering a crash.
The Marquez brothers completed the day in seventh and eighth respectively, with Marc besting Alex in the afternoon session.
Bezzecchi ended the Misano test in ninth after an action-filled day for Aprilia, while Maverick Vinales’ best time saw him 10th for Tech3.
Brad Binder was 0.943s off his team-mate’s best time in 11th, with Honda rider Luca Marini trialling some new aero parts alongside a new chassis in 12th.
Enea Bastianini completed testing in 13th, ahead of reigning World Champion Jorge Martin, who worked on ergonomics and his positioning aboard his RS-GP before a crash ended his action.
Miguel Oliveira was 15th, beating out his fellow Yamaha riders including Quartararo, who spent the day running the V4 package. Meanwhile, Miller ended the day in 17th after handing over the new engine to Alex Rins for the afternoon session.
Johann Zarco tested a new aero package, albeit in a different style to factory rider Marini, and completed the day’s action in 18th.
Takaaki Nakagami stepped into Honda testing duties and ended the day behind stablemate Zarco in 19th, ahead of Rins’ best laptime aboard the V4 in 20th.
Dani Pedrosa tested new KTM parts in 21st, while Somkiat Chantra completed his programme in 22nd.
Ducati test rider Michele Pirro rounded out the standings in 23rd to complete the Misano test.
Honda’s Joan Mir did not participate in the test, joining Ogura in focusing on recovering from injuries ahead of the Japanese GP.
