Marc Marquez admits he and younger brother Alex Marquez “were the luckiest” riders following the restarted British MotoGP race at Silverstone.
Marquez crashed from the lead on the second lap of the main race on Sunday, but was able to restart after an incident between Franco Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaro brought out the red flag.
The Spanish rider had inherited the lead from younger brother Alex, who crashed at the first corner after getting the best start off the line.
Both riders were able to rejoin the race, as Marquez admitted the pair rode their luck to finish the Grand Prix.
“Today the Marquez family were the luckiest family,” Marquez said in the post-race press conference.
“We did a mistake in the ‘first’ race. I was quite angry. The feeling in the first race was amazing.”
The race at Silverstone was affected by windy conditions, which is something Marquez said he may not have considered going into the first part of the race.
“It was a completely different mistake [to Austin or Jerez]. Today it’s because it was windy. I didn’t do anything strange. Maybe I did not consider the wind.
“I also crashed on Friday with a medium front and the feeling wasn’t the best, but I didn’t consider racing with a soft front, because of my riding style.”
“From the first race to the second, I don’t want to say it was the tyres. I don’t want to say it was the bike. I don’t want to say it was me. We need to analyse it.
“In the first race I felt good. In the second one, we changed the bike and tyres, and was coming from a crash so maybe I was more stiff and the bike was turning less for this reason. I need to understand.”

Marc Marquez: ‘I tried to minimise the drama’ at Silverstone MotoGP
Marquez said that after his early mistakes, he tried to control the situation, especially when he understood his position versus his championship rivals.
The Spanish rider tussled with Jack Miller, Johann Zarco and Franco Morbidelli in the early stages of the race, but battled through to third.
He admitted after the race he “tried to minimise the drama” and achieve a strong points finish ahead of his championship rivals.
“I made a second mistake, I dropped positions. Then, I tried to minimise the drama.
“When I saw I was in front of Alex [Marquez] and Pecco [Francesco Bagnaia], I decided to stay on the bike and finish the race.
“For example, when I crashed at Turn 11, the gust was super difficult. I need to work on my mistakes.”
