Championship leader Jorge Martin finishes the opening MotoGP practice on top, with the Spaniard kicking his weekend off to the best possible start.

His lap time of 1.31.707s edged out Marc Marquez aboard his Gresini bike, with the Spanish duo separated by only 0.037s.

KTM provided its test rider Pol Espargaro with another wildcard entry following Austria, with the rider finishing in a strong third place to kick off his weekend before the Misano test on Monday.

Pramac Racing had a strong session, with Franco Morbidelli rounding off the fourth spot, before a strong finish of fifth for Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo.

Aleix Espargaro placed his bike sixth in the final classification charts, ahead of Brad Binder and factory Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia, with the latter nursing minor injuries following his Aragon collision with Alex Marquez.

Maverick Vinales’s ninth position puts the factory Aprilia in the top ten, with rookie Pedro Acosta placing his GasGas bike on tenth.

Departing KTM rider Jack Miller occupied the 11th spot and was in the middle of a Tech3 GasGas sandwich, with Augusto Fernandez delivering a respectable 12th spot.

Enea Bastianini finished 13th on his GP24 Ducati at his home race, as Johann Zarco finished his opening practice session as lead Honda rider once more, with the LCR rider finishing in a steady 14th place.

VR46 Ducati had a difficult outing to kick off its respective weekend, with Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio finishing 15th and 19th.

Alex Marquez was a second off his older brother and mustered only a 16th-place finish, ahead of Japanese marque riders Alex Rins and Luca Marini.

Takaaki Nakagami managed a 20th-place finish, but the surprise of the session was that the Trackhouse duo of Raul Fernandez and Miguel Oliveira occupied the final spots of the grid.

Honda test rider Stefan Bradl finished as the final classified rider, with the German struggling to get to grips with the track against the full-time riders, finishing a second adrift of both Trackhouse riders.

2020 champion Joan Mir opted not to set a lap time due to suffering from intense gastroenteritis, leaving him out of the session altogether.
