WTRAndretti GTP driver Filipe Albuquerque will make a single appearance in the LMP2 category with United Autosports USA at the next IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round in Canada.

For IMSA’s sole trip across the border into Canada, the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will host the Chevrolet Grand Prix, a 2-hour and 40-minute sprint race on 14 July.

Due to the FIA World Endurance Championship’s 6 Hours of Sao Paulo clash on the same weekend, Paul di Resta will be unable to fulfill his duties in the #22 Oreca 07 LMP2 due to his commitments as a WEC Peugeot Hypercar driver.

Instead, Albuquerque will take his place to co-drive with Daniel Goldburg with the Chevrolet GP outed as just one of two 2024 IMSA races without the GTP category, with solely LMP2, GTD and GTD Pro classes participating.

“I am really looking forward to race in Mosport [Canadian Tire Motorsport Park] with United,” said Albuquerque who is well-affiliated with the team.

“We will be racing for the overall victory.

“I had the chance to meet Daniel [Goldburg] already and we had a great feeling.

“On top of that, I got a nice warm up at Le Mans to get back into the LMP2.

“We want to fight for the win for sure.”

“It’s always a pleasure to race with Filipe,” added United Autosports CEO, Richard Dean.

“… So with Paul fulfilling his commitments with Peugeot in the WEC, it was an easy choice.

“Filipe is super quick, reliable and a fantastic mentor for other drivers… I’m sure Daniel will learn a lot from him in Canada.

“Sadly, the 24 Hours of Le Mans didn’t go to plan for Filipe and the United Autosports #23 LMP2 crew this year, so this is our opportunity to celebrate victory together in 2024.”

The Portuguese driver will join three other GTP drivers so far in LMP2 machinery – Pipo Derani for AF Corse, Louis Deletraz for AO Racing, Renger van der Zande for Tower Motorsports – at the CTMP.
