The recent version of the FIA World Endurance Championship’s 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps entry list has enlisted Alpine’s reserve driver Jules Gounon in the #35 whilst Ferdinand Habsburg recovers from his injury.

Following Habsburg’s injury at the beginning of April during a testing session, the Alpine Endurance Team brought in their reserve driver to replace the Austrian for the 6 Hours of Imola.

After initially listing Habsburg in the provisional Spa entry list, a recent update suggests Gounon will participate in his second WEC race in the #35 Alpine A424 in the Hypercar category, once again teaming up with Paul Loup Chatin and Charles Milesi for the effort.

At Imola, the #35 finished in 15th position and so the crew will look about a more competitive outing in Belgium on 11 May.

Habsburg spoke on social media about his situation after the injury and his recovery, and so the following race on the 2024 WEC schedule – the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 15-16 June – will be the next opportunity for him to return to the cockpit in race circumstances.

Additionally, an update in regards to Proton Competition’s IMSA-WEC clash will see the #99 Porsche 963 as the fifth Hypercar at Spa to run with two drivers, as Neel Jani and Julien Andlauer will compete without the help of Harry Tincknell.

Across the pond, Bent Viscaal will make his IMSA debut at the 2-hour and 40-minute sprint race with Gianmaria Bruni in the #5 Proton Mustang Sampling 963 which is one of 34 entries for the fourth round of the 2024 IMSA calendar.
