Alpine has taken a dominant pole for the 1000 Miles of Sebring, the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Nicolas Lapierre rocketed to pole in the #36 Alpine A480-Gibson with a best lap of 1m 46.407s.

The Frenchman’s best effort was 1.3s faster than the second-placed #708 Glickenhaus 007 LMH.

Third overall went to the LMP2 polesitter Nicklas Nielsen in the #83 AF Corse ORECA 07-Gibson, who was just under three-tenths down.

Both Toyotas failed to outpace the LMP2 field. Brendon Hartley was fourth in the #8 GR010 Hybrid, while Jose Maria Lopez managed no better than seventh.

The #7 car was behind both United Autosports cars, with the #22 of Filipe Albuquerque leading the #23 of Paul di Resta.

Lopez could not put in an improvement in the closing stages of the session, as it was ended prematurely when Fabio Scherer caused a red flag with a crash in the #34 Inter Europol Competition ORECA.

Team WRT took fourth and fifth in LMP2, followed by Prema, the two JOTA cars and Team Penske. Charles Milesi rounded out the top ten in class for Richard Mille Racing Team.

Porsche has taken one-two in qualifying for GTE Pro, with Michael Christensen beating team-mate Gianmaria Bruni.

Bruni was initially the quicker of the two in the #91 Porsche 911 RSR-19, but Christensen closed in during his penultimate lap.

When the Italian then failed to improve for his final lap, the 2018-19 world champion struck and posted a time of 1m 57.233s in the #92 Porsche to take pole.

Nick Tandy qualified third in the #64 Corvette C8.R just under half a second behind.

AF Corse had a difficult session, with the two factory Ferraris setting lap times slower than that of the GTE Am polesitter.

That pole time was set by Ben Keating in the #33 TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage AMR, taking the top spot on home soil by posting a 2m 00.588s.

Behind Keating, Paul Dalla Lana made it an Aston Martin one-two in the #98 NorthWest AMR Vantage, leading Team Project 1’s Brendan Iribe and Iron Dames’ Sarah Bovy. Satoshi Hoshino rounded out the top five for D’Station Racing.
