Ogier completes second Toyota Hypercar test

Sebastien Ogier has carried out a second test behind the wheel of Toyota’s Le Mans-winning GR010 Hybrid Hypercar.

The rallying legend took part in a three-day test at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain. Ogier reportedly flew straight in from Monte Carlo, where he finished second behind Sebastien Loeb.

It was the second time the Frenchman has driven the GR010 Hybrid, following his maiden outing at the post-season FIA World Endurance Championship Rookie Test in Bahrain last November.

Ogier was not the only driver to test the car for Toyota’s first test of the year, with all of its drivers present except for Kamui Kobayashi. The reigning world champion could not attend the test as he was competing in the qualifying race for the Rolex 24 at Daytona alongside Jimmie Johnson.

Jose Maria Lopez, who shares the #48 Cadillac with Kobayashi and Mike Conway, also part of the Action Express Racing crew, were both present for the test. The duo flew in from Florida following the conclusion of the Roar test. Reserve driver Nyck de Vries was also present.

He is known to be working towards a switch to endurance racing now that his legendary rallying career is winding down.

Toyota has already said that there would likely not be room for Ogier in its 2022 plans, as it has already confirmed its full-season WEC line-up for a continued two-car effort. It is also expected not to field a third car for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, which it last did in 2017.

Ogier himself stated after the Bahrain test that he is interested in competing in LMP2, which does appear to be increasingly likely for the Frenchman’s direct future. Whether that will be in the FIA WEC or the European Le Mans Series remains yet to be seen.
