Corvette adds second car for Daytona, Sorensen joins

Corvette Racing has added a second car to its GTD Pro effort for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, welcoming former world champion Marco Sorensen to the team.

The #4 Corvette C8.R will be driven by the WEC pairing of Nick Tandy and Tommy Milner, joined by Sorensen.

Corvette had initially downsized its involvement in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship to a single car following the announcement of a split WEC-IMSA programme for 2022.

Sorensen is the new signing to Corvette’s ranks, joining Tandy and Milner in place of Alexander Sims. The 31-year-old is the first Danish driver to drive for Corvette since Jan Magnussen’s departure from the IMSA line-up at the end of 2019.

The Dane has spent almost his entire sportscar racing career competing with Aston Martin, scoring two GTE Pro world titles in 2016 and 2019-20.

He has made one prior appearance at Daytona, joining Paul Dalla Lana, Pedro Lamy and Mathias Lauda in an Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 in 2017. He qualified third on debut before going on to finishing twelfth in class.

“I’m super happy to join Corvette Racing,” said Sorensen. “It’s a great opportunity for me personally to be with this team and try to achieve together the result that everyone is wanting – that’s of course winning!

“I love the mentality of Corvette Racing. It has a great car and from what I know, there are some really great people that I will team up with. So I’m really looking forward to this.”

“Corvette Racing has always been a standout team to me because of the way they go racing. They go race and they race hard. They have been around for a very long time so to have the opportunity to go with the team to Daytona is a great one.”
