Hour 16 at Le Mans: #52 Ferrari falls away with suspension issue

The #52 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo has fallen away from podium contention with a suspension failure with eight hours remaining in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The AF Corse car was brought into the garage by Miguel Molina with suspension troubles in the fourteenth hour.

The team lost some eight laps to the class leader in GTE Pro, which was the #51 sister car. That car still leads the class, with James Calado currently behind the wheel and leading from the #63 Corvette C8.R driven by Antonio Garcia.

The troubles for Ferrari has promoted the #92 Porsche 911 RSR-19, now driven by Kevin Estre, into third in class.

The overall standings are still led by the #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid in the hands of Mike Conway, with Kazuki Nakajima 38 seconds behind in second place.

Nicolas Lapierre remains in third place in the #36 Alpine A480-Gibson, with the #708 Glickenhaus 007 LMH of Olivier Pla fourth.

Team WRT continues to lead one-two in LMP2, with the #31 ORECA 07-Gibson of Robin Frijns leading the #41 sister car driven by Robert Kubica.

Will Stevens currently holds third place after an entertaining battle with JOTA’s Sean Gelael. The two cars were close to each other for several laps but Stevens looked unable to get the pass done.

He did, however, get the #65 Panis Racing ORECA, into third when Gelael pitted the #28 ORECA to hand over to Tom Blomqvist.

GTE Am is led by the #83 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo of Francois Perrodo, despite the Frenchman having to serve a penalty for speeding in the pitlane.

Ben Keating sits in behind in the #33 TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage AMR, while the #80 Iron Lynx Ferrari 488 GTE Evo is third in the hands of Matteo Cressoni.

Cressoni recently took the car over from Callum Ilott, who closed the gap to Keating significantly during his stint.
