Formula 1 is both exciting and exhilarating, and as such deserves its position as the premier global motorsport. Therefore, it’s no surprise that F1 attracts a global audience second only to the Olympics and the football World Cup; events that are only staged every four years.

Despite the niche nature of motorsport, the 400 million plus Formula 1 fans are usually all very informed, passionate and invested in their sport. Typically, F1 dominates their lives, and has become a part of who they are.

Naturally, though, new generations of Formula 1 fans, along with some existing fans, want to become more knowledgeable about the sport and improve their viewing experience – essentially, they want to become the ultimate fan.

So here’s a short guide on how to do this…

Bet on the races

Betting has become an entertaining part of sports culture. It adds an extra element of fun to the viewing experience and allows fans to put their knowledge and predictions to the test.

Formula 1 betting is particularly popular with fans – and fans should try it for themselves. Big events, like the British and Italian Grands Prix, are great for betting on, as lots of fans are doing it.

Follow your favourite teams and drivers on social media

Most Formula 1 fans have their favorite team and driver. For example, some might be diehard McLaren fans, or a Lewis Hamilton fanatic.

Whoever you like, it’s a great idea to follow them on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram. This way, you can stay up-to-date with their lives, from behind-the-scenes footage to any injury problems that might be going on. Also, you can communicate with your favorite teams and drivers through comment sections. Sure, they probably won’t respond, but they might see your comment and retweet it – which is very cool!

Learn about the history of Formula 1

Formula 1 also has a rich, glamorous and action-filled history that requires extensive viewing and reading to learn about.

Thankfully, there are lots of movies like John Frankenheimer’s ‘Grand Prix’ and the docu-drama ‘Senna’ (both all-time classics), plus recent documentaries like Netflix’s series ‘Drive to Survive’ and ‘Life on the Limit’, and books like Jenson Button’s ‘Life to the Limit’ will get you that extra bit to transform you into the ultimate fan.

Download Formula 1 apps

Everyone has a smartphone, these days – which means you can download any apps you like.

To be the ultimate Formula 1 fan, you should download the official Formula 1 app, available for both iPhone and Android.

Through the app, you’ll be able to follow all the latest news, results, and timings – as well as gain access to in-depth analysis that will grow your knowledge of the sport.

So, when you’re on a break at work or are just killing some time, you can open the app and absorb yourself in all the amazing stats and information at your disposal.

There’s even a Formula 1 racing game app available in the app store, too – so, if you’re a gaming fan, you should also add that to your app collection.

Attend grands prix

Attending any sports event has been difficult throughout 2020 and 2021 because of the global pandemic. However, life is returning to normal and soon there will be packed out crowds again watching those amazing cars zoom by!

If you can afford it, you should look into getting tickets for a domestic event. For example, if you’re Canadian, you should look at attending the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal which takes place on the iconic Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
