Derani tops night practice at Sebring

#31 Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac DPi, DPi: Mike Conway, Felipe Nasr, Pipo Derani

Pipo Derani has put Whelen Engineering Racing on top for the third consecutive practice session ahead of the Twelve Hours of Sebring.

The Brazilian was fastest in the night session, posting a 01:46:989 in the #31 Cadillac DPi-VR to maintain the team’s position at the top of the timing sheets.

Renger van der Zande was second fastest in the #01 Chip Ganassi Cadillac, 0.454s behind Derani with Ricky Taylor third for Wayne Taylor Racing, 0.090s further back.

The top five in class was completed by Kamui Kobayashi in the #48 Ally Cadillac DPi-VR, with Sebastien Bourdais fifth for Mustang Sampling Racing.

LMP2 remained firmly in the hands of PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports, with Mikkel Jensen putting the #52 ORECA 07-Gibson up top for the third session in a row.

Like during the opening session, United Autosports was second fastest, with Wayne Boyd 0.492s behind Jensen’s best effort of 01:50:270.

Gabriel Aubry put Tower Motorsport into the top three for the first time, posting the third quickest time ahead WIN Autosports’ Thomas Merrill.

GTLM runners once again outpaced LMP3, with Mathieu Jaminet scoring a 01:56:563 in the #79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR-19, well clear of both Corvettes in second and third, with Antonio Garcia third in the #3 Corvette ahead of the #4 car of Alexander Sims.

Riley Motorsports continues to beat the team to beat in LMP3, with Jeroen Bleekemolen leading a one-two for the team in the #91 Ligier JS P320 with a time of 01:57:269, over half a second ahead of team-mate Spencer Pigot.

Finally, Laurens Vanthoor put Pfaff Motorsports up top in GTD as the Belgian lapped Sebring International Raceway in a time of 02:01:241 in the #9 Porsche 911 GT3 R.
