Porsche has responded positively to the finalized regulations for LMDh presented by the ACO and IMSA on Friday, stating that it is able to take the ‘final step’ in its concept study.

The German manufacturer announced it was looking at a possible LMDh entry after the draft technical regulations were revealed back in May.

Porsche’s vice president Fritz Enzinger has now stated that the finalized regulations allow Porsche to continue work on a possible return to the top class of international endurance racing.

“We’re very happy that FIA, ACO and IMSA have provided the final details of future LMDh regs,” Enzinger commented. “We’re now able to take the final step in the concept study commissioned by our board of directors.”

Were Porsche to join LMDh when it debuts in 2022, it will return to the premier class of sportscar racing for the first time in five years.

Porsche raced in LMP1 between 2014 and 2017 with the 919 Hybrid. During that time, it won the world championship in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and also took three consecutive victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
