Formula E reveals extended Mexico City circuit layout
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship has revealed an updated layout of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez – the home of next month’s Mexico City E-Prix.

The revised circuit – which made its debut in the series in 2016 – features an extended first sector and while cars will continue to tackle a trickly right-hand Turn 1 and subsequent constant-radius Turn 2, the Turns 3/4/5 chicane of yesteryear has been replaced.

This alteration will see drivers instead turn left onto an extended section featuring four additional corners, with Turns 5, 6 and 7 running on the 10th and 11th corners of the Grand Prix layout of the iconic venue.

Following the completion of this section, drivers will continue to race through the Foro Sol while one final change has been made to the third sector – the removal of Turns 14, 15 and 16, and the site of an airborne accident between Nelson Piquet Jr and Jean-Eric Vergne in Season 5.

BREAKING! Track update for the #MexicoCityEPrix 🇲🇽 The longer, faster track promises constant action. Last year in Mexico we saw one of the best races in Formula E history, so why not come and watch LIVE? Get tickets now at https://t.co/OTjXhgDoXu pic.twitter.com/KgWR6Vqwcy

On a circuit that has provided thrilling action in the past, the aforementioned changes should only add spectacle to the 2020 event.

With a longer lap featuring a higher quantity of high-speed corners, increased emphasis is placed on regeneration while Attack Mode has a greater strategic advantage, with drivers using the temporary 35kW power boost holding a firm advantage in flat-out sections.

The Mexico City E-Prix will take place on February 15 and marks the fourth race of the 2019/20 campaign.
