Fabio Quartararo will receive equal machinery to Petronas SRT team-mate Franco Morbidelli for 2020, SIC and Yamaha have announced in Malaysia.
The Frenchman has competed with a B-Spec M1 in his rookie premier class campaign, while Morbidelli received an A-Spec machine for his sophomore MotoGP season.
Quartararo has out-performed the Italian significantly throughout this season though, having scored four pole positions and six podium finishes compared to none apiece for Morbidelli.
He also heads the VR46 man in the point’s standings by 58 points in sixth and tenth overall respectively.
This-along with Yamaha’s desire to faster develop the M1- has led to them allowing the Malaysian Sepang International Circuit squad a pair of up-to-date A-Spec machines for next year.
“We are very happy to confirm that we have reached agreement here in Sepang for the PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team to field two A-spec YZR-M1 bikes for the 2020 season,” said Yamaha Managing Director Lin Jarvis.
“The performances of both Franco and Fabio have been excellent this year and this shows by the achievements of the riders and team in the various championship rankings they have achieved thus far both individually and as a team.
“The support of PETRONAS to this new team has been crucial in permitting the team to make a further step forward for 2020 with two A-spec bikes.
“Yamaha commit to providing the team and the riders our best possible support to enable them to make further progress in 2020 with race wins as well as hopefully achieving the best Independent rider and Team crowns.”
The SIC team has had a breakout debut year in MotoGP after taking over the Yamaha satellite deal from long-time customers Tech 3-who moved to become KTM’s official satellite outfit for ’19.
The organisation currently sits fourth in the overall teams championship ahead of the likes of Suzuki and fellow satellite squads LCR Honda and Pramac Ducati, behind only the factory Ducati, Honda and Yamaha teams.
