The LMP2 class for the 2020 IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship is likely to get a boost, as two teams are set to join the championship next season.
The class was in need of more teams after it only featured two full-time entries this year. For the 202 season, both Era Motorsport and Dragonspeed look set to join the championship, both with ORECA machinery.
Era Motorsport is a new name in IMSA competition. The Indianapolis-based squad is well established in historic racing and is currently run by Kyle Tilley, who made his name in Grand-Am and Indycar. The team will be entering a brand new ORECA 07-Gibson, and will enjoy technical support from Dragonspeed.

In addition to supporting the Era Motorsport entry, Dragonspeed is believed to have intentions to field an ORECA 07-Gibson of its own for more races than the already confirmed return to the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The team, which also has experience in the European Le Mans Series, FIA World Endurance Championship and Indycar, are the defending class champions at Daytona.
These new ORECA entries join existing IMSA competitors PR1 Mathiasen Motorsport and Performance Tech Motorsports, who both return to the championship next year.
Rick Ware Racing is also reportedly aiming to join either the endurance rounds or the full six-round LMP2 schedule, but with a Multimatic MK30-Gibson instead of ORECA machinery. The Riley/Multimatic chassis last saw use during the 2018 edition of the Rolex 24 at Daytona with BAR1 Motorsports, but now looks set for a comeback.
