Fabio Quartararo topped the second consecutive FP2 for a Yamaha machine as he out-paced Maverick Vinales by over three-tenths of a second at Motegi.
Quartararo managed a lap ultimately 0.321 quicker than Vinales-a 1:44.764s that was nearly a second faster than the pace set in FP1- to hold a hefty advantage over the rest heading into qualifying day tomorrow.
Marc Marquez was third fastest for Honda-just 0.336 in-arrears- while Andrea Dovizioso managed a stronger session this time around to insert his GP19 Ducati into fourth.
Valentino Rossi had a more encouraging practice this time around to round out the top five, just ahead of the second Petronas SRT M1 of Franco Morbidelli-meaning all four Yamaha's end Friday in the top six.
Jack Miller was seventh for Pramac Racing ahead of the second factory Ducati of Danilo Petrucci, while Joan Mir and Aleix Espargaro closed out the top ten on their Suzuki and Aprilia machinery respectively.
Alex Rins just missed out on the top ten on the second GSX-RR in 11th, while Pol Espargaro struggled more in this session as fastest KTM down in 13th.
Home hero Takaaki Nakagami ended Friday 15th overall-the same posiiton he managed in FP1- in what is his final event of the year due to an upcoming shoulder operation that will see him miss the final three races.
Jorge Lorenzo's problems continued during Friday at Motegi, the Mallorcan ultimately ending up 17th quickest-1.897 seconds from the pace.
