Alexander Sims will continue to drive for BMW i Andretti Motorsport for Season 6 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, partnering Maximilian Gunther.

Sims made his debut in the all-electric single-seater series in the 2018/19 season and experienced a difficult debut campaign that was characterised by appalling luck.

The 31-year-old Briton amassed 57 points over the 13-round season and secured his best result in the final race of the year in New York, securing his maiden pole position and podium in the championship.

“I learned so much in my rookie year; there were fantastic highs and some lows to overcome and I’m determined to utilise this knowledge and start where I left off, continuing to build from there," said Sims.

"The competition is set to be tough this season with the other drivers, but I’ve got to grips with the unique challenges of Formula E and I’m ready to turn that experience into good results.”

BMW Group Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt added: “We have an exciting driver duo for our second Formula E season. Alexander Sims learned at a rapid pace in his first season, and showed that he can be up there at the front.

"He was unlucky in some of the races, but he finally celebrated his first podium at the finale in New York. I’m confident that he will be able to build on this in 2019/20.”

With Sims retaining his drive at BMW, only two seats remain vacant for the coming season, with the newly named NIO 333 FE Team yet to announce either of its drivers.

Pre-season testing for the impending 2019/20 campaign will take place from October 15-18 at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia.
