Romain Grosjean has asserted that Haas can avoid a repeat of its 2019 slump in form, as it continues in its bid to get on top of its recalcitrant VF-19.
For much of the campaign Haas has been a competitive force in the midfield but has regressed in race trim.
Haas, which finished fifth in last year’s Constructors’ Championship, is a low-key ninth, and has finished in the points just once across the past nine grands prix.
Haas has accepted that its in-season development has failed to yield the desired gains, with Grosjean running the Melbourne-spec car in Britain, Germany and Hungary.
In Singapore, Grosjean switched to running a hybrid version of the VF-19 using the updated front wing, but the older-spec floor, bargeboard and rear wing, having entered the weekend on the newest-spec car.
Grosjean is expected to continue using a hybrid car in Russia, where Haas is anticipating further struggles due to the low-energy nature of the Sochi Autodrom.
“I think we just know that the wind tunnel to the track has been wrong,” he said.
“So, it’s something that we tried to understand, where it’s coming from, as at the minute that’s the key, getting the delta to a decent level rather than staying where we are, which is a big correlation issue.
“I don’t think we’re lost, we know it’s somewhere in there, there’s been an acknowledgement of it.
“Is there a deadline? No. I think we’ve made some good step in understanding, from what I hear. I’ve got confidence that we will bounce back next year in a good way.”
