Porsche and Coca Cola unveil one-off classic livery for Petit Le Mans

Porsche will be contesting the season-closing Motul Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta with a historic livery, presented on Tuesday in association with beverage giant Coca Cola.

The team's two 911 RSRs will be sporting a classic red-and-white colour scheme, inspired by the Bob Akin Racing Porsches of the 1980s. The livery made its debut on the team's Porsche 935, before the Coca Cola-branded 962 achieved great success in 1986 when the trio of Akin, Hans-Joachim Stuck and Jo Gartner won that year's Twelve Hours of Sebring.

This livery pays tribute to the 962, with many features that close resemble that of Porsche's legendary prototype. The car features the company's logo on the front of the car, as well as the 'Coke is it' slogan on the side. Like the 962, the pair of 911s will also run on white BBS wheels. Both the #911 of Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy and the #912 of Earl Bamber and Laurens Vanthoor will run the same livery, but are to be held apart by the windshield banner.

The Petit Le Mans, to be held on October 12th, represents something of a home race for both Coca Cola and Porsche as both Coca Cola and CORE Autosport are based in Atlanta, Georgia. The city is located about an hour east of Braselton, the home of Road Atlanta, a track that partly saw its construction financed by the beverage company, while CORE Autosport runs Porsche's North American GT operation.

“The anniversary season for IMSA comes to an end with a big highlight," commented Pascal Zurlinden, Porsche's Director of Factory Motorsport. "It’s fantastic that two such strong brands like Porsche and Coca Cola are working together. We definitely want to continue our shared success story that began in the 1980s.

It would be a dream come true if we could secure the title with a top result – especially considering that it will be the last race outing for this version of the Porsche 911 RSR in the IMSA series.”

“We are keen to add to the celebrations of IMSA’s 50th anniversary at the final round of the season in a very special way," added Porsche Vice President of Motorsport Fritz Enzinger. "I’m very curious to see how the fans will respond to our two Porsche 911 RSR in Coca Cola colours. The special vehicle liveries of the past few months have yielded us numerous successes. We won at Road Atlanta last year, we won Le Mans in 2018 and we won at Sebring this year. We’re happy for things to continue like this.”
