Suzuki’s Joan Mir set for Misano MotoGP return

Joan Mir has confirmed he is working towards his MotoGP return at Misano next weekend, having tested his Suzuki GSX-RR at the pre-event test at the end of last week.

Mir has been out of action since suffering from a pulmonary contusion as a result of a fearsome 300km/h crash while taking part in the post-Brno test at the Czech venue.

He was ruled out of the following weekend’s Austrian GP, before also being forced to miss the British GP-which team-mate Alex Rins went on to win- due to persistent bruising on his lungs.

The Spaniard confirmed in an interview with Suzuki Racing’s magazine that following the positive test he was looking forward to competing at Misano, but conceded he was “not 100%, but very close.”

“We went to Misano for a couple of days of testing and the initial feeling is quite good,” said Mir.

“I felt confident on the bike, even better than I expected. We spent two days there to carry on the improvements with the bike, and then we have two weeks to get ready for the GP of San Marino on this very same track.”

Mir has had an up-and-down rookie season, but looked to have made a step forward in pace before his Brno crash, scoring his best premier class result so far with sixth at Barcelona before scoring two more top ten finishes at Assen and the Sachsenring.

The 2016 Moto3 World Champion stepped up to MotoGP with Suzuki for this year after just a single season in Moto2 with Marc VDS where he ended the year sixth in the points standings, scoring four podiums but no victories.
