Alex Lynn after podium: ‘I honestly think we could have won’

Maxime Martin and Alex Lynn took a third place finish in GTE Pro at the 4 Hours of Silverstone last Sunday, but Lynn believes that the British marque could have done more with the available race pace.

The pair took third place in class after a frantic, rain-affected affair in which both Ferraris were taken out of contention with crashes and penalties, leaving the #97 Aston Martin to come home in third place for the 2019/20 season opener.

"It was a very positive day," said Lynn. "We came away with a podium which is a great way to start the season. Honestly I think we could have won the race and it is great that we have that pace."

The Anglo-Belgian duo had a strong race, even leading their class ahead of Porsche and Ferrari during the second stint before a rain shower threw the race on its head.

After the #71 Ferrari of Miguel Molina was wiped on a crash and the #51 served a drive through penalty, Lynn and Martin were left to complete the podium behind the Porsche duos of Richard Lietz and Gianmaria Bruni in the #91 and Kevin Estre in the #92.

"Maxime drove a great race and we delivered a solid performance. We are night and day better than where we were this time last year and we can now build a solid championship challenge. I think the class is nicely balanced and it's going to be a close season."

The FIA World Endurance Championship continues with the Six Hours of Fuji on October 4th.
