Sebastien Buemi: We’ll have to check the data to see where we lost time

Sebastien Buemi qualified second for the season-opening 4 Hours of Silverstone, but was hoping to be closer to their polesitting team-mates.

Buemi will be lining up in second place tomorrow with team-mates Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley, after the #7 trio of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez set an average time that was exactly 0.3s second quicker.

Talking to Motorsport Week, the Swiss driver admitted that he would have liked to be the one on pole position for tomorrow's race.

"You always want to do better, but car 7 did a good job," Buemi said. "We have all the data, so we’ll have to see where we lost time. It’s a long race again, a bit shorter than usual, but it could rain at the start of the race as well, so we’ll see what we can do."

After hearing that the Rebellion qualified third and fourth, the double Le Mans winner said that he was expecting the two R13-Gibsons to be closer, while at the same time predicting that the privateer cars will eventually challenge the two hybrids:

"They were very good, so I don’t know. We were expecting them to be close. We keep getting slowed down somehow, at some point they will be there."

Buemi also expressed frustration at the renewed Equivalence of Technology rules, while at the same time explaining an understanding of the new rules.

"It is frustrating to slow down the car when it’s capable of doing more, but at the end of the day we want to race, we want a good show. If that’s the only way to have a good show, then it’s better that than to have two separate categories."
