Team Penske's Will Power revealed he was able to bide his time coming through the field during the ABC Supply 500 thanks to the confidence he had in his car.
The Australian effectively began the race out of sequence on pitstops compared to his rivals after pitting under the caution period following the red flag, this was due to picking up debris from the opening lap crash.
Power expressed his confidence in being able to carve his way through traffic as the laps ticked down thanks to the solid car beneath him and run in the leanest engine mode possible to save fuel.
When he was informed of the incoming storm towards the superspeedway, Power was told he was free to turn the engine up which allowed him sprint to the front before the red-flag was called on lap 129 out of 200 to end the race.
"I was very determined today, especially knowing I had the car to do it," said Power.
"As soon as the race started, I knew we had a good car. I knew we had a good car going in. Yeah, we just made some adjustments, kind of had a lot of push.
"Obviously back in traffic there, I ended up trimming out a little bit at the end there. All the right moves.
"I kind of sat back and saved fuel a lot. When I got shuffled back second or third stop with the yellow, we were able to move forward pretty quickly and get back to these guys.
"Yeah, got the car right. The car was very fast, as well. When my spotter said, The rain is coming, I just turned the fuel up and I went as fast as I could. Yeah, it was good, good day."
