Jamie Chadwick became W Series maiden champion and takes home the $500,000 prize after what was a tense race for the 21-year-old on Sunday at Brands Hatch.

Chadwick started from pole but slipped back down the order as she took a cautious approach, describing the race as the "worst 30 minutes of her life".

The victory went to fellow Briton Alice Powell who took her maiden W Series victory at her home event after completing a superb move on Chadwick to take the lead.

Chadwick led from the start but was unable to break free from the chasing pack with Powell and Emma Kimilainen scrapping over second. The latter gaining a place at the race start after Esmee Hawkey stalled on the grid, which saw her drop to last and was then hit with a drive-through.

Powell then pounced on Chadwick into Turn 1 at the half-way point of the race and the pair went wheel-to-wheel through Turns 2 and 3 before Chadwick had to concede the position, but in doing so also lost out to Kimilainen who went through to take third, leaving Chadwick in the grasps of title rival Visser.

A Safety Car was called shortly after for Miki Koyama's stranded car. The Japanese racer span and was unable to get going again, forcing the marshals to intervene.

Powell controlled the restart to retain the lead from Kimilainen, whilst Visser was closer to Chadwick and was able to make a move for the final podium spot, with the pair making brief contact.

Chadwick had to settle for fourth, but it was enough to secure her the title with a 10-point lead [click for full standings] over Visser after six rounds.
