Charles Leclerc will give ‘absolutely everything’ for Ferrari revival

Charles Leclerc says he will give “absolutely everything” in Sunday’s German Grand Prix, after Ferrari’s challenge capitulated during a disastrous qualifying session.

Ferrari topped all three practice sessions at Hockenheim, with Leclerc fastest in FP2 and FP3, after Sebastian Vettel led the way in FP1.

But Ferrari’s afternoon unravelled from the outset.

Vettel suffered a loss of power on his first Q1 lap and the issue could not be repaired, leaving him at the back of the grid for his home event.

Leclerc sailed through Q1 and Q2 but did not appear in Q3 as a problem was detected with his SF90.

Ferrari confirmed that a problem filtering the air to the turbo was to blame for Vettel’s problem, while a fuel system issue was what stranded Leclerc’s car.

It means the youngster is set to line up from 10th place on the grid.

“I feel for the whole team,” said Leclerc. “But the points are scored on a Sunday and I will give absolutely everything to make everyone smile again tomorrow. It is going to be a fun race.

“We will try to understand what happened to not reproduce it. It is a difficult day for the team and I hope it will be a very positive day tomorrow.”

Leclerc added: “I felt great in the car and the car felt great. Today and all weekend. It is a shame it ends up like this.”
