Formula 1 stewards at Hockenheim have said they will punish drivers who abuse track limits at Turns 1 and 17 for the German Grand Prix weekend.
A note issued to the teams by F1 race director Michael Masi made it clear that running wide at the first and final corners will result in a driver's time being deleted during qualifying and a possible penalty for repeated breaches during the race.
"A car will be deemed to have exceeded the Track Limits at the exit of Turn 1 if any part of the car passes to the left of the blue and white exit kerb," read the note.
It added: "A car will be deemed to have exceeded the Track Limits at the exit of Turn 17 if any part of the car passes to the left of the blue and white exit kerb."
During final practice, several lap times were deleted as a result of the clarification and that will also apply during qualifying on Saturday afternoon.
However Masi added that drivers who are pushed wide would not be punished.
"The above requirements will not automatically apply to any driver who is judged to have been forced off the track, each such case will be judged individually.
"In all cases detailed above, the driver must only re-join the track when it is safe to do so and without gaining a lasting advantage."
