Toyota's Jose Maria Lopez topped the opening morning of the World Endurance Championship test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya during the Prologue.

Lopez led a Toyota 1-2 in the updated TS050 Hybrid which features a raft of upgrades, as the Japanese marque works to keep its dominant position within the LMP1 category.

Lopez set a best time of 1:29.991 in the #7 machine, which was 0.267 seconds quicker than the sister car could manage, driven by Sebastien Buemi.

Rebellion Racing occupied the next two positions with its pair of R13 Gibsons. The #3 machine piloted by Gustavo Menezes was 1.612s slower than the leading Toyota. The #1 was a further half tenth adrift in fourth.

Just one of the Team LNT cars hit the track in opening four hours after a scrutineering-related problem with the #5 car. The #6 however did make it out, but completed just 15 laps as it finished up slowest of the class and tenth overall, well adrift of its rivals.

The LMP2 field was headed by the #32 United Autosports Oreca 07 Gibson of Paul Di Resta, who recorded a 1:33.344 in the closing minutes of the session. He was three-tenths up on the #36 Signatech Alpine ELF Alpine A470 Gibson.

The GTE-Pro field was topped by AF Corse with its pair of Ferrari 488 GTEs and GTE-Am was topped by the two Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSRs.

The 240 minutes were relatively drama free bar an accident for the #67 Porsche of David Heinemeier Hansson at Turn 9. That brought out the red flag – the only one of the session.

There will be a further four hours of running on Tuesday and then two more four-hour sessions on Wednesday.
