Allan McNish proud of Audi despite double championship defeat

Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler team boss Allan McNish has said that he is proud of the team's performance in Season 5 despite missing out on both the Drivers' and Teams' Championship titles in New York.

After 11 races in the 2018/19 campaign, the German marque found itself in contention for both championship titles for Formula E's double-header season finale in New York City.

Heading to the Big Apple, Lucas di Grassi trailed Drivers' Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne by 32 points while Audi was 42 points adrift of DS Techeetah in the Teams' Standings.

Taking fifth in the penultimate race of the campaign, di Grassi remained in contention, however, collided with Jaguar's Mitch Evans in the final race of the season and ultimately missed out on what could have been his second Formula E title.

In the Teams' Standings, Audi successfully closed in on DS Techeetah but failed to beat the squad's points tally, trailing the Franco-Chinese outfit by only 19 points.

Despite missing out on both titles, McNish said that he was proud of the team's motivation and dedication and hopes to carry this into Formula E's sixth season that will commence later this year:

"The entire team fought to the end and gave their utmost," said McNish.

"It was incredibly close. Like last year, we took a lot of points away from DS Techeetah at the finale, but this time it wasn't enough to win the teams’ title.

"Still, I'm proud of the team. They put so much hard work, energy and determination into this season.

"We’ll carry this determination into the sixth season. We’re already looking forward to the first race in November."

Formula E's sixth season will commence on November 22 in Ad Diriyah while Audi will maintain its current driver line-up with both Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt remaining with the team.
