Andre Lotterer has been named as Porsche’s second driver ahead of the German marque’s entry to Formula E for the 2019/20 season.

Lotterer joined Formula E in Season 4 and has driven alongside Jean-Eric Vergne at DS Techeetah for the series’ past two campaigns.

The German racer had been contracted to drive for the Franco-Chinese DS Techeetah team for Season 6 but will instead join Neel Jani at Porsche for the team’s debut season in the all-electric single-seater series.

Lotterer previously drove for Porsche in the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship following Audi’s departure from the series in 2016, finishing in fourth place in the final standings alongside Nick Tandy and Season 6 Formula E team-mate Jani.

"I’m really looking forward to competing for Porsche in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in the 2019/2020 season," said Lotterer.

"I have been part of the Porsche family since 2017 and have lots of great memories of joint successes – particularly when working with Neel.

"We drove together in the Porsche LMP1 Team in 2017, and drove for Rebellion Racing in the WEC these past two years.

"It’s great that we will now be the driver pairing for the Porsche Formula E Team. I’m looking forward to the new task and to the future collaboration with the team.”

Following Lotterer’s departure from DS Techeetah, it is unknown who will replace the driver although it is understood that Vergne will have an input when picking his team-mate for the impending 2019/20 campaign, with Antonio Felix da Costa understood to be a strong candidate.

DS Techeetah thanked Lotterer for his services and revealed it "has been approached by multiple high-level drivers and are currently evaluating who will team up with Jean-Éric Vergne from Season Six onwards. This will be announced in due course."
