McLaren has confirmed that Carlos Sainz Jr. and Lando Norris will continue to race for the team in Formula 1 in 2020.

Sainz Jr. joined McLaren for 2019 after previous spells at Toro Rosso and Renault, while long-term junior Norris graduated to the championship with McLaren off the back of finishing runner-up in Formula 2.

Both drivers were expected to stay at McLaren, with Sainz Jr. already on a long-term deal, and on Tuesday the team duly confirmed that it will field an unchanged line-up next season.

McLaren has enjoyed an improved on-track performance this season off the back of changes implemented through 2018, with the team currently fourth in the standings.

Sainz Jr. and Norris hold seventh and eighth respectively in the Drivers' Championship ahead of McLaren's home race in Britain this weekend.

“Today’s announcement provides the team with the continuity to keep pushing forward,” said McLaren Team Principal Andreas Seidl.

“The performance of both Carlos and Lando have been a key part of the team’s progress.

“Their feedback has enabled our engineers to develop the MCL34 and look ahead to the MCL35.

“Carlos has played a key role in developing the car using his experience, while Lando has got up to speed with the demands of Formula 1 incredibly quickly and is growing in confidence every weekend.

“This is welcome news for the whole McLaren team and we look forward to continuing our partnership together.”
