The German Grand Prix will remain at the Sachsenring for at least the next two years; it was confirmed today by ADAC Sachsen.
Klaus Kotzner, alongside Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta and ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk, confirmed a deal that will see the German race continue at the Sachsenring through 2020 and ’21 on Saturday afternoon as qualifying for the ’19 MotoGP event was under-way.
“We are extremely happy to continue our relationship with ADAC,” said Ezpeleta.
“Germany is one of the most important countries in Europe and German motorcycle racing has always been important, so it’s very important for us to keep the German Grand Prix.
“This is something we have done together we ADAC and we thank them. Sachsenring place is the right place to be. It’s one of the key Grands Prix on the calendar and we’re happy to have this partnership with ADAC.”
The German GP has taken place at the Sachsenring every year since 1998, utilising the current 2.2 mile layout since 2002.
The flowing circuit is feared among riders due to its fast nature, particularly the sixth-gear Waterfall corner towards the end of the lap.
Many riders have picked up injuries at the turn primarily due to its steep, off-camber formation that can quickly catch riders off guard.
Reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez is the most successful premier class rider at the circuit, having won the last six races on the bounce and securing pole for the ’19 edition that will take place tomorrow.
