Red Bull-backed Patricio O’Ward is set to join the Formula 2 grid at this weekend’s round of the championship in Austria.
MP Motorsport has been in need of a replacement driver in the wake of full-time regular Mahaveer Raghunathan sustaining a one-event ban for exceeding the penalty points limit.
Raghunathan’s ban rules him out of this weekend’s Austrian round and O’Ward’s name has been included on the official entry list issued by the FIA.
The Mexican youngster won last year’s Indy Lights championship and has made selected outings in IndyCar for Carlin this season.
O’Ward, who picked up Red Bull backing at the start of the year, has so far taken a best finish of eighth at the Circuit of the Americas.
It is the second driver change for the upcoming event, with Campos confirming earlier on Tuesday that Arjun Maini will replace Dorian Boccolacci at the team.
Elsewhere, in feeder series Formula 3, Jenzer Motorsport has announced Giorgio Carrara will drive its third car in Austria, replacing Artem Petrov.
